14 upper franconian teams competed in two age groups at the coburg climbing center for the title of upper franconian champions. For the approximately 80 students, a lot of preparation was necessary in advance by the active members of the coburg section: new routes and boulder had to be bolted, whereby the correct grading of the difficulty levels was the main problem, the markings or signs of the various problems had to be installed, sanitary facilities as well as a safety team had to be provided. The concept, in which each team had to solve six boulder problems within one hour and in two further hours each climber had to master six suitable routes from ten prepared routes of various degrees of difficulty, provided the young climbers with an intensive and varied day of climbing. As the difficult routes yielded higher scores, the students often went to or beyond their individual performance limits.

For a long time it looked as if this year’s winners would not come from coburg for the first time. The level of competition was very even, probably also because the other climbing strongholds in upper franconia (forchheim, bayreuth, selb, hof, kulmbach) now also offer excellent training conditions. At the end of the competition, however, the casimirianum won the competition class 2 (age groups 2002 to 2005) ahead of the WWG bayreuth with a commanding lead of more than 40 points, in third place. Place landed the ernestinum. The competition in the younger age group 3 (2005 and younger) turned into a thriller. The final scores of the three first-place teams were in the range of just 20 points. At the award ceremony, the overjoyed winners from the alexandrinum celebrated their success, which came just ahead of the GMG bayreuth and the ernestinum.
